please help......need some advice right away
A buddy of mine and myself are putting headers on his 91 formula in the next few days. He ordered the 69470 shorty Hedman headers and the Ypipe for them. His car is a dual cat right now....and since we decided there wont be a problem with emissions....we would just use that Ypipe and make a straight pipe up for where the cat "should" be. There are two problems that I can think of. One, will the Ypipe bolt up to where the trans bracket is(the one that holds the cats up)????? Second, he already has a Flowmaster catback made for the dual cat setup....will we be able to make it work for the single cat setup? And finally, since the Hedman headers dont have AIR on them....how hard is it to take the pump and tubes out??? Sorry for all the questions...just want to hurry up and get this done. I appreciate all the help I get from you guys......thanks in advance

OMG! He has duel and wants to make a single straight pipe? wow... thats a new one on me. Why not just go to a muffler shop and have them weld up some connector pipes to hold the headers onto the already dule exhaust? And Leading a single pipe to a cat that is setup for dule? hmm... I cant see how you could do that without either cutting and blocking a hole or forming extra pipe to go around to the other side.. but either way it seems you would have flow where there doesnt need to be flow causing hot spots and backfire like sounds. I would just go to a muffler shop and have them weld you on some pipes lol And Drive there with open headers! lol It will be fun, if you get pulled over just tell the cops your going straight to the muffler shop. lol.... if you do anything else.. umm... good luck.

If the pipes go all the way from the headers to the cats, why not just use the dual cat hedman y-pipe? He already has the cat back for the dual cats so I would think all you would have to do is weld in pipes where the two cats would be. The A.I.R. pump and tubes are easy to take out don't worry about that.

that is actually what I suggested...but he already ordered the single cat pipe. Ill try to talk him into getting the 68491's like I have....maybe he can exchange them. When I installed the dual cat headers on my car, it had already had some exhaust mods....Ive never installed them on a "virgin" car before.....thanks for the tip on the AIR pump though....Although, does it hurt anything to be there? Im leaving mine on because 1) I have cats and 2)Im trying to build an 11sec emissions legal daily driver
Thanks again......
