Dual Cats
Dual Cats
Hey guys, I have a 1990 IROC 5.7 with dual cats. I have 3 inch cat back with a 80 series muffler. I also have the flowmaster Y connector for the cats. Anyways, one of the cats started falling apart so I was wondering if I could replace them with two 3 inch cats and have a shop custom make some 3 inch pipes the connect the manifolds and cats? Is there any gain? Any louder? Anyone have this done?

In terms of exhaust - you can do anything you want as long as you have the money and somebody willing to do it. So, yes, you can do what you ask. The real question is SHOULD you do that and what is the benefit on YOUR setup.

If you want to make your Y pipe from the header/manifold 3inch... I'd suggest ditching the flowmaster Y and go with a single 3" Cat. Then you have one obstruction instead of two. After all, they both let out in to your 3" catback anyway....
