Got my new system on the rs
Seeing as how my cat was bad and i hated the quiet pipes i took the 91 in yesterday for exhaust. Quoted me 532$ for a complete system cat+ all the way back. GO to pick it up and they didnt change the intermediate pipe. SO long story short we fight with him he calls his district manager and that guy tells him to replace it with what i want. Another 3 hours go by he calls and goes we replaced the pipe but had a problem couldnt find a 2.5" so i'm thinking they threw on a 2" and i was gonna be pissed. SHow up i now have a full 3"exhaust system high flow cat and Ravin muffler and damn does it sound sweet nice deep throaty rumble. I was originally going to go no tips just have it exit stock looking but decided to go with a set of 2x6" rectangular tips similar to the 4th gens. Will post pics later

).

It was the midas at illif and buckley in aurora i wanted to have exhaust pros do it but 700 for a system is a little high. After everythin is said and done i do like the system though sounds meaner than hell as much as i wanted to install the system myself i was looking a 500 just to but and ship it so figured i'd just have it done.

I haven't been to Midas since 1998 for that very same low-balling estimate that sounds like what you want but doesn't end up being what you asked for (and poor workmanship as well). And, the Midas shop is only a couple of blocks from my house.
"2-1/4 inch duals are big enough for my 440. They'll be good enough for your 396." Never mind that it cost me 2 tenths, and the 2-1/2" duals I have on now cost me zero.
One of the beauties of our 3rd gens is you can get great high-flow parts that you can bolt on yourself. I rarely leave an exhaust shop happy with what I got (last time in current memory was 1991 in Spring Valley, CA).

Any chance of posting sound clips? I have Ravin on my IROC, but I'd like to hear what it sounds like on a 305 TBI (if thats what it is)

I gotta say the nice thing was they screwed up and never had me sign an estimate before they did the work and from what the dist. manager said that was they're flaw and how they got the pipe done. The welds dont look the greatest i mean i could have ran a better bead blindfolded but i'm also a welder the only problem i'm having with the system is the drivers side tip sticks in a little more than the pass. tip does so when its warm i'm gonna grind off his weld and re weld the tip out a little more. I was pretty happy when the i left because it was exactly the sound i was looking for. So where in co are you i'd liek to check out ur system and ride

You didn't answer Mr. Metal's question (you both posted about the same time).

I believe that if you didn't sign any estimate (which grants them permission to work on your car) then you don't have to pay for anything.

I really don't think thats true, no shop has ever asked me to sign an estimate for any type of work. Does that mean I can just say I don't feel like paying and leave? I believe an "implied contract" exists.

they dont need a signature if they talked to you on the fone or in person about the price change. now if they dont talk to you or anything and just do the work before you approve it , then there can be trouble. i work for pepboys in the service dept. and its either call the customer or talk to them in person before doing anyting, we write up an estimate for the, show them what they need and so forth.
