Need a little advice on Cat's

I will be buying a set of hedman 68481 headers from ACS for my 85 305 TPI next week. Well i went to take off the bolts connecting the Y pipe and the cat and 3 of the bolts just broke off and there is no way they are coming out, so i decided i mays well buy a high flow cat while im at it. I looked at a few but im not sure what i really need to get or what some decent high flow cats are for a reasonable amount of money. I know it needs to have the AIR hookup since im leaving all the emmision stuff on for some reason. Any advice appreciated, thanks

If you haven't ordered the hedders yet, you might want to consider Hooker 2055's instead. I know they say "86-90", and Hedman says "82-92", but they're not telling the whole story. They will only bolt to '86-'90 single-cat TPI-type systems, any other will require modification - the same modifications you would have to do with 2055's.

Anyway...

Get a direct-fit Catco cat CTO-9118 from Summit. It'll mount directly to either the Hooker or Hedman y-pipe. You may have to modify the cat-back, but the '86-'90 TPI single-cat application cat-back will bolt directly to it. Since the '85 was a "bastard" year, and '86-'90 application parts are the most common offered by the aftermarket, now would be a good time to start using that stuff.

What kind of modifications are required with the 2055's? Will i see any noticable difference in performance or sound if i go with the hookers over the hedmens? thanks

If you get the direct-fit '86-'90 TPI single cat, you'll have to modify the cat-back to fit the cat, that's all.
