to weld or not to weld... the cat?

I installed slp headers and a catco cat. the cat is clamped before & after. there are gases coming out of both sides. I went to a muffler shop today & they told me the solution is to weld it.
Is this a good idea. I dont want to mess the SLP y-pipe.
what you guys think?

If its leaking, I'd get it welded up.
