Exhaust leaking cutouts???

My dad tells me that cutouts leak. That is with or without an electric plate. In order for me to get one, I need to convice him that it is possible for a cutout to not leak. I just need more information on how to explain this. Anyone have any ways to explain this?

The seal between the head and header flange doesn't leak, does it? Or the bolt-on cats? The header flange has less sealing surface, and the cat flange is about the same.

The only ones I've ever seen leak are the cheap cast iron JC Whitney ones. I've had the regular cutout that has the bolt on cover, and my dad has had 2 electric ones on 2 different vehicles. None of them leaked at all.
