Hey guys. I just got a 1990 Iroc 305 TPI. I have searched and serched the forums and found so much info about exhaust i dont know what to make of all the info.

I am looking for a realy loud exhaust, but i dont want it to really crack or sound like an exhaust leak. Emissions is not a problem and neither are cops. Right now i have the stock exhaust with a flowmaster 40 series, and its no where near as loud as I want it to be. What can I do to make it louder? I know cutout would be the loudest, but would it sound raspy and bad? or nice and musclecar-ish. I dont want to change my headers as of yet, so let me know what you guys think. I really apreciate the help....

a stock small block with an open exhaust kinda sounds like a stock harley with open pipes, not good!!

if you dump the cat ( i would rather see you with a cat) it will gt much louder.

So you are suggesting dump the cat? wouldnt that be the same then as running a cutout except its going to a muffler. Does the muffler really tone the sound?

I'm not suggesting dumping the cat, I think you should run one. Since your car is basically a stock 305, you won't really gain any power so long as you have a good quality cat. What i do know is that your car will be quite a bit louder if you replace it with strait pipe. That said, stock smallblocks don't sound so good without a muffler. The flowmaster 40 series ( american thunder i think) is one of the loudest they make and IMHO has a nice sound to it.
