How do your tips hang?
Just curious as to how you guys put your exhaust tips on- mine have been tucked under the rear bumper for 10 years. Do you guys have your tips extending past the bumper? I really don't get a problem with exhaust dirtying up the bumper- but then again, my car is blue and not white.
Just wondering what the current f-body trend is... Thanks!

mine are under. My car is white. I've never had a problem with the exhaust getting the rear dirty.
I have seen cars like that though, it looks horrible.

I like the look of them flush. Sticking out alittle bit is ok. Mine use to be flush with my 83 Z rear bumper, but now with the 91-92 bumper they are like .5 to inch before the bumper. I will get a p ic later today.

My 90 RS had 3in Magna Flow tips that stuck out about an inch and a half. Wish I had a pic...
I'll tell you one thing though, it saved the paint from damage was I was tapped from behind one day at a stoplight.
I love the look of Magna Flow tips, and I plan on adding some slant cut ones to my 92Z when I get around to the exaust. This time however, they will stick out only half an inch, if even that.

holy wing.
I had mine under the bumper untill I changed my muffler design and really didn't like the 4thgen tips much either. I've been swinging between some polished 2.5-3" stainless cut to make tips or just using regular tubing and hiding it.....

Once I get my garage up to par I'll be able to start putting some time back into the 'bird to redo the muffler (again) and more than likely hide, or tuck up really well, the ends.
Also, which may just be me and I'm delusional but, it seems like turned down tips makes the exhaust seem a little more quite as well ?

Well iroc2nv nice ride.. Its kinda cool to see people make dramatic body style changes to there 3rg gens.
We have so many Imports racing around my area of Houston that make that annoying buzzing sound .
Its kinda of weird how no exhaust system really looks good on a 3rd gen .I thought I would get a huge tip on my ride except for the fact that I have the motor to back it when I idle especially when I mash the gass..So I hope people see it and think slow import...
Ive got a heavily modified 383 with a mufflex 4inch exhaust with the tip going from 4 to 5 inch its even with the rear bumber.

At this angle they look like they stick out far but looking straight down in the back you can only see about an inch of pipe.

Mine sit pretty much under the bumper so they're not really obvious, but they're still noticable. I like them that way. I don't really care for them sticking way out past the bumper, I would say an inch would be the maximum for my taste. Definitely some nice looking cars and tips in here!

personally i think flyin low has the sexiest car i've seen on these boards. irocnv's is really cool too, makes you think import, and there is noting i love more than killin jettas, hondas, and neons (gotta lot of neons around here). Any one who tries something different gets my respect, and thats the first 3rd gen i've seen w/ those sty gfx's.
anywho, back on topic.
they stick out just enough so that you can read the "Flowmaster" stamp in the top of them. Think they're beautiful, i like how they're 3 inches the whole way, im not a big fan of seeing a 2.5" pipe expand to 3" and such.

Hey, thanks to everyone that helped me out! I think this is the most ever votes that I got on a poll. You've all convinced me, I'll keep 'em tucked. I can't find a decent picture of my tips, but if you hop to http://www.geocities.com/tomp_3rdgen/ and check out the 2nd row, last picture in the row, you can see my Blue firebird, and the way the tips look. (No, that's not me in that picture. There's two Toms on that webpage!)
The tips are Megs "rolled-edge". Specs are part # 4010X, straight cut, in chrome- 2.25" bolt on, 4" outlet. They've gotten pretty beat thru the years; I might replace 'em with Stainless. See http://www.coneeng.com/megs/megshome.htm for more info.
Oh and that's an old pic of my car... the cb antenna is gone, the whole car is lowered, the rear tires are normal size now (P245/60r15 instead of P275/60r15), and there's a lot more rust and a lot less paint.

the tips on my 92 rs are tucked up under the trunk and are about 4 inches back from the bumper edge. you cant even see them unless ur mad far away or looking under the car really.

Chrome tips or any pipes that hang under the bumper just don't look good on a 3rd gen., I have dual 2 1/2 mandrel bent pipes that exit in the stock location, hidden like they should be.

wow i really like the chrome z28 tips on the trans ams...looks really slick and im a big fan 3.5" slash cut tips
i might have to put those on my car next time i do a system
i have 3.5" slash cut on my 2002 but thats because they fill that notch in the bumper very nicely
oh and my tipes are just about at the end of the bumper

Here's my hooker tips, just put the exhaust on friday. They stick out too much for my liking. I just sent payment out for my Z28 tips, and i thought i was going to be unique with them lol, oh well, i think it'll look nice on my car. I'll have to trim the tail pipes a little and tuck them up closer to the bumper.

Use your ears, not your eyes! Hide it best you can because no car's @$$hole is attractive. Yeah most of the time it's pointed at a ***** but hey, even I have to walk up to my car from behind every once in a while.... yack.

Yeah yeah I'm bring it back from the dead. Have been posting patchy as of late and ran a search on my name!
Look what I found... so I figured while I was reading it and since no one had tips like mine, and I have some new pics from underneath...I would post em!
