Installed my headers

Well I finally got around to installing my headers. They were used Edelbrock 6872's. Installation was a pain but they were definetly worth it Sounds alot better and gave a nice increase. I can get some sound clips up.

Removing the old manifolds were pretty easy. It was just a pain to remove other brackets just to have access to the manifolds. For the drivers side header, I had to remove the valve cover and all the plugs. After that it slid right in. Passenger side was pretty simple. I just had to remove the dipstick and the header went right in. The rear passenger bolt is a pain to tighten though!

im having trouble getting both headers in lol.

any tips for both sides? i read i have to remove the steering column connector and lower slip tube down o the steering box?

can u explain that in laymen terms? thanks!

what i did was loosened the tranny mount bolt then took out both engine mount through bolts and jacked the engine up. it made things ALOT easier, i would move the engine how ever i wanted

Yeah I got Ac and Im pretty sure its on the passenger side. The passenger side was probably the easiest. Just make sure you take the dipstick out, that makes things a lot easier. Then on my 83 I just had to move some small things out of the way and the header slid in. I think on your Iroc it will be that black box. You basically just have to disconnect the hoses and the bracket that holds the box. I left the spark plugs in for that side.

The drivers side was a pain to get in. The steering column connector is the black rod. Its connected by one bolt near the firewall, its 15mm. I took that bolt off, and then there is a black cover that slides down but I couldnt figure out how to lower it haha. I think you just slide it down but I didnt want to mess anything up. So I ended up taking the valve cover off and the header fit. I had my plugs off for this side.

Tightening the bolts up is pretty easy on both sides except for the last one on the passenger side. Do you have the manifolds off?

yes manifolds are completely off, y pipe is laying on the ground, still slightly attached to that damned cat lol.

the only problem on the passenger side im having is between the heater core box and the valve cover, not enough clearance no matter how i try.

spark plugs are out, and i have completely removed my AIR system , except thesmog pump .

so that little black box isnt even their anymore.

dipstick tube is out as well

im thinking ill remove my whole heater core box and then it should slide in easy.

hmm I didnt have that problem. I started them from the right and slid them over to the left. I had to force it in a little but I got it. I think another alternative is to remove the starter and it may be able to slip in from the bottom. Its a pain in the *** but the end results will be worth it get a pic too when you are done, how do the headers look coated?

it's not hard at all, i did it and it was my first time doing headers or anything like that.

if u do what i did it wouldn't be a problem, i was able to push the engine over to the drivers side some and it worked out fine. my problem was getting the dipstick out (but u already got it) mine bcame a twizler and broke...the first nut that held it in place would move, it moved the entire bolt that held the mani on and the stick just turned with it

ok update: i got the passenger side header in .

i said **** it, and i put a breaker bar between the header and the valve cover, and pushed the header into the heater core box lol, i dinged it pretty good but the header slid right in after that.

now ill tackle the driver sdie tomorrow, if i can figure how to drop that steering bar thingy.

You could have taken the valve cover off and set the AC compressor aside.

i tried, but then discovered i dont have a torx bit, or a half drive to release the belt, so i thought the forced way was best, and it didnt take too long.

No but you can move the steering from under the hood. It is the thing that runs parrallel with your fuel lines and driver side frame rail.
