4th gen cat back?
Hey all a buddy of mine is willing to give me his 3 inch catback from his 98 z28
just wondering if it will fit on my 85 z28?

It will fit but you will have to mess with the mounting brackets since they are in different locations on 4th gens.

You may have to relocate the cat locationg depending on how your current set-up is routed. You will also have to move the rear mounting tabs. Is this an aftermarket cat-back or stock cat-back? Even a stock 4th gen cat-back with a different muffler is more than enough exhaust for a 305 car (cat back wise that is).
