FWIW-exhaust vs open headers test

I've been running all year with dual 3" exhaust coming off Hooker Super Comp headers. I never installed a H or X pipe, just straight back and mufflers dumped right before rear end housing.

I said wtf before nationals last weekend and cut the exhaust off leaving 18" of 3" pipe coming off my collectors for extensions since all the headers for our cars are so short.

Findings: Not worth the trouble it took to cut it off and unbolt and now have to reinstall. I saw no ET gain, no mph gain, and only about a 200rpm diffrence at the stripe. I was very disappointed in the fact I thought it might go faster yet by at least .1 or .2, but also relieved since know I never have to remove it again and it's just as fast in street trim as it'd be in "race mode"

Now, if you had header plugs, you wouldn't have had to do that

Hehe, j/k

At least now you know you don't have a bottleneck in the exhaust system.

It would'nt of been so bad, but I'm always giving the guys at the track chit casue they cant drive their cars on the street and what not, so I got to hear "you cant drive it on the street like that" and I've never ever been a fan of touching the exhaust period. dont know why, just a personal pet pieve too much work. The car sounded nasty, so that part was worth it to hear the motor uncorked for once I just could'nt hear my tunes when I was driving around warming it up in the pits!!!

I was really surprised and the Flowmasters seem to work with my set-up so my hats off to them of their muffler design. Hear I thought I may need 3.5" pipes, but obviously not.

Goals for next yr: 9's through the pipes
