new 91 z28

Hey everybody. I bought a single cat 91 z28 a few weeks ago. I found this site to be really helpful. So far I've used it to get the right p/n for the a/c elimination pulley and on which disk brake rear end to swap in. I have a G92 on the way with the correct proportioning valve and e-brake cables. I am building the car up for NASA CMC racing, it should be fun.

Anyways....I have a couple questions I'm hoping you guys can help with.

The first is what is the recommended cali legal exhaust set-up? I have to keep the stock headers but the cat and back is legal to swap. I'm thinking about the SLP system for the cat back but havent found any cats yet. Any opinions?

The second is that the steering columb. When the tilt wheel is locked in place it stil move about and inch if pressed down and at an angle. Does anyone know what the fix for this is? I hope I don't have to change out the steering columb. That would suck.

Thanks,
-Ron

what are "stock headers" and why do you have to keep them? if you're referring to the stock manifolds, you can get headers that have the AIR fittings / emissions stuff. SLP makes some, there are others, as well.

I thought headers were a synonym for exhaust manifold. No?

Well I meant illeagal in terms of race rules. The camaro mustang challenge rules state that stock exhaust manifolds must be kept. Everything back including the y-pipe can be changed.

Any road racers out there with a recommendation?

Don't get me wrong, I searched the site and will probably go with the random tech cat and SLP cat back. I was just wondering if anyone out there had a better idea or experience with some other set-up or if these items I listed are crap.

Thanks,

Good buy man! Headers, are generally stainless or aluminized steel tube type setup. Exhaust manifolds are cast iron. If you have to keep the stock manifolds the ones off of the 350's had a little bigger outlet and would probably help pick up a minimal amount of HP. You could also go as far as porting the stock manifolds or have them extrude honed. The exhaust systems you listed are both good systems. But for max flow, you would want to go with a single in/out muffler. You could get the I-pipe (from cat-muffler) from flowmaster, get a magnaflow, spintech, etc single in/out muffler, and the tail could come from flowmaster also. Single 3" with a good muffler would support all the HP you will pull out of that 305 with the stock manifolds. Hope this helped.
