Removing Smog Pump Issues...
I thought I read some posts about potential problems with the catalytic converted after removing the air/smog pump...Is this true? what potential problems might happen? If there are some issue (besides passing inspection), is it worth taking the risk? Thanks for the info.

The cats seem to fail sooner with out the AIR system, they will also not fully do they job they are there for. If you going to ditch the AIR system, then usually when they fail replace them with a strait pipe.

So as long as I have a straight pipe, or a hollowed out cat, then I will be fine, right?...no other issues? (besides inspection)

You are correct. Once you delete the AIR, just make sure you cap off the AIR connection on the catalytic converter, so you won't have an exhaust leak.
Yeah the cat will get clogged up pretty quick from the additional HC and NOx emmissions. If I were to go about ripping off the AIR pump I would go ahead and ditch the whole PCM and FI, and go with a carb. Unless you know someone who can reprogram it, especially with FI.

You don't have to worry about reprograming when removing any of the emmisions junk on the TBI. If you remove all it you will feel a huge incress in power and not even get a SES light. Now thats not to say that a retune would not help more or that that would be prime time for one though. I remove all emmisions stuff off of all my cars & have always got more power other than my '97 Z28 I found no more power but knew there was a lot less to go wrong with it, it got an OBDI ECM swap and tune at the same time cause of the SES light the OBDII ECM showed. But your fine with any of the OBDI's.
Thanks, Bobby
