I heard a mustang Cobra go by the other day, and I thought "thats what I want my Camaro to sound like", so I caught up with him at a stop light and asked what kind of pipes he was running....his answer was "straight pipes"......but it sounded good, not loud and crappy like a lot of cars with no muffler........I was wondering if anybody tried running straight pipes behind the cat converter.......the Cobra had dual outlets and I'm thinking a cat and no mufflers, adapt to straight pipes might be the way to go........any thoughts.?????

 

Your car won't sound good with straight pipes. That cobra sounded good because it had 150+ more hp than you along with a true dual system with an crossover. My car had straight pipes after the cat when I bought it and it sounded like poo nuggets. I immediately switched it out for a hooker cat-back.

Poo nuggets sound like a stock LO3 with 2.25" straight pipes It was that bad.

Yea the car was in a wreck two years ago and I am just now finacial able to start putting her back together. The project has finally started.

 

It would probally sound better if you removed the cat!?!

 

On a 305 it would sound worse. You would have a tons of rasp, drone and popping without a cat.
