car alarms

Very cool five7, I hate those stupid car alarms anyway, no one pays attention to them anymore anyway. It's hilarious cruising through a grocery store parking lot and setting off alarms while thumping by in my chevelle. I can go down an isle way and set off 3-4 at a time, it's hilarious. Larry.

My wife & I were talking a walk around the lake later that evening and ran into the neighbor wife & daughter. They didn't say anything about it, don't know if they knew it was me or not. The daughter said she saw me out at the track Saturday, although that wasn't with the Camaro.

You can be sure I wasn't trying to make noise. I think it's too loud, myself. Someday I'll be able to justify something quieter.

stock engines arent exactly gonna produce the sound as a high tuned race motor. there isnt much air exiting in a stock motor.

a flow 80 will sound differently on a305 tbi motor than a 305 TPI motor, cuz the TPI motor is abit more higher end performance. more air moving thru the exhaust will make more sound.

you cant expect alot of exhausts to sound amazing on a mild motor. its just not gonna happen.

on my L98 it sounds quite mean but not super loud either. different tone to it. i like it but want more from it. check my clip for the sound a few posts up.

when my system was just clamped on, it fell off one day and i ran the straight 3inch pipes back from the cat. it was really loud and mean sounding. but not toned right for my liking, but it did draw looks. the car would chirp second gear on the shift with the straight pipes, and that was with the stock tranny and no shift kit or stall! so i did pick up some power over the muffler which is expected.

a crossflow muffler wont flow as much as a straight case muffler like a 40 series or straight thru tubes like bullet/magnaflow/ultra flo, etc. but for most cars, do you need that extra 10hp or so? its nice to have but is it really worth it on a mild street car? i dont think so. buy a flow if you like the sound and want some performance. if your chasing ET's or got some hot motor setup, then go something else for the flow needed.

but a hopped up motor and a 80series with out a cat will be loud!

On the topic of Flowmasters. I just bought Hedmans long tube headers and also 2 super 40's that will just go right to the headers maybe with some turn downs. Anyways what is the difference between the 40 series and the super 40's

super 40's

I was recently talking to Flowmasters tech line asking the same thing since I was torn between the super 40's and there race/shootout muffler.
The old 40 series are there 2 chamber muffler, I have these on my 454 truck.
The new super 40's are pattented straight off of their shootout/race muffler only the case is thicker, (I believe the case is 5 inches thick on the super 40's) Where as the race muffler is only 4 inches thick. They are of the same design and flow characteristics only the new super 40's have a thicker case and the sound level is lower than the race muffler. I needed a bigger exhaust on my chevelle and was looking at both the race muffler and the super 40, both are the same style case. After talking to the tech guy for a while I decided on the super 40's, I used 2 inch hooker super comp headers, 3 1/2 inch exhaust into a Dr. gas
X-pipe that necks down to 3 inch and then into a pair of 3 inch super 40's and then 3 inch torque tech tailpipes, all mandrel bent. Very good sounding system, especially at high rpm, I think the X-pipe is what makes the sound unique at high rpm. If you are torn between the old 40 series and the super 40,,,,,,go with the super 40 for sure, they have improved the flow of that muffler dramatically. Larry.
