the muffler just fell off my car and it really didn't get any louder. it is an LO3 with 100K miles. just wondering if its the cat? the car isnt slugish but i figuered when the exhaust fell off it would have been loud but it sounds a little louder than stock. just wondering if anyone has any ideas. im looking into getting a full exhaust but because its not loud i think i can get away doing body work first. if anyone has any ideas it would be appreciated. thanks

My guess is you either have wimpy pipes that restrict the flow, or you had a leak the whole time so when the muffler fell off its didn't make a difference.

It can very well be the cat. My buddy and I both have the same exact motors in our winter cars. Both of our mufflers happen to fall off in the same week. Both have stock exhausts, but he had his cat replaced, and I was still running the 19 year old stock cat. And his car was WAY louder then mine. It's the only thing I can think of why his was soo much louder.
yes it is the stock size 2.25" i think maybe 2.5" and it increased slightly. On my other 88 formula just a 2" hole before the muffler is a lot louder other wise the cars are identical. I dont know just thought if anyone had any ideas, i was going to do a cat back before it fell off. Now seeing how quiet it is without a muffle i think its better to just wait and get the whole 3" exhaust. thanks for your reply
yeah i thought it might be the cat but i was't sure because its not showing the tell tail signs of being fully clogged thanks
