HELP me PLEASE! new exhaust is popping

Ok, so I just installed headers on my 89 350 TPI. I went with the dual converter setup. I didnt have enough time to finish it all the way out the back so right now everything is on up to the converters and about 12" out of the converters. I took it for a little test drive and here are the results:

At about 2500 RPM there is loud popping and it sort of feels like the car jerks a bit. This is not the popping that most experience after letting off the pedal, im still on the gas when this is happening. It only happens when Im in gear. I can put it in neutral and rev it up to the same 2500 rpm and no problems.

Also, the AIR tube going into the converter was glowing red right around the area where it enters the converter. Converters are brand new, so definitely not clogged.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Did you install the O2 sensor? With headers and duals you are prolly running leaner.

The popping is natural without a muffler or more exhaust. Don't worry about it, although its noisy and ghetto.

Wow, I missed the glowing part. That's not good. Sorry I was in a hurry and probably shouldn't have posted at all.

I know for sure this is not normal.......

the headers are hookers and are jet hot coated. They dont glow, nor does any other part of the exhaust.

The popping is when im still on the gas, as opposed to right when I let off. I realize there will be some noises as I lef off the gas, and those noises are present. No problems with that....

I just bought a new O2 sensor and a new fuel filter as well. I really dont know what else I can change?

any further thoughts would of course be most helpful

Thanks guys!

How can I change this lean mixture? Would that cause the popping and shaking/lurching as well?

Prolly have to burn a new chip, the O2 sensor should get it to run OK when at cruise speed/rpm's but once you give it some gas I would think that your base fuel and acc tables would be lean, I have no exp with burning chips so cannot offering any input so check out the DIY Prom board

Anybody know how long it takes the computer to remap itself for mixture. That may be the problem. Has it gone away yet? How long did you drive it (at operating temp)?
