catalitic converter
this may sound stupid but how do you take the catalitic converter off to gut it? i unbolted it from the start of the cat back and gutted half of it but i cant get it off the y-pipe and there are still some little pieces left in the cat and they make noise every time i go over a bump. but i dont see any welds so i dont think it is welded on there. i am going to take off the emissions pump and plumbing to the cat and gut the cat this weekend hopefully. but last time i tried to remove the cat i couldnt get it off. anyone else have this problem?

I had to cut mine off the y-pipe. I "heard" a way to get by the cat police was to remove the cat, slide a pipe through it and bolt the pipe back up to the exhaust. That way it looks like your cat is still installed since you dont see the pipe running through the middle of it.

if its not welded up, it should slide off. being rusted will give you some major problems with the slide factor, though. penatration oil will help.
i have to agree with 87_Z28, i've "heard" that the internal pipe method works as good as or better than the "big screwdiver" method.
