single 40 series vs. dual 40 series

I'm not going to sweat the performance loss/gain between the two what I'm wondering is what is the sound difference beetween one 3" 40 series versus two 2.5" 40 series with a crossover pipe if it's close I'm going to use one 3" 40 if not can I run a setup like *****'s with 2 40 series stacked on top of each other in the stock location. Sorry to ramble on just looking for the advice and opinions of people who have been there before. Thanx

i went with the 2.5 40 series and it sounds great, if i can get a clip up ofit before i tear it down(doing a bb swap), i will just so you can hear it, im also running hooker headers so that might help also. Also got a clip of straight headers which is awesome..............................
