New exhaust system installed
New exhaust system installed
Just got the headers and exhaust installed on the 88 Iroc. I went with Hooker 2460 shorties (non emissions) no air tubes,,,and bought the matching Y-pipe #16767HKR,,,Everything bolted right on with no fuss. These headers and Y-pipe package use the standard 3 bolt collector flange which is nice...It didn't have the ball flange that everyone seems to complain about.
this Y-pipe also comes with a pipe to remove the Cat Converter,,,and since I had mine removed already this worked perfectly. Although I replaced mine with 3 inch piping so I could continue into the new 3 inch cat back system I also installed.
I went with Edelbrocks Cat Back,,mainly I liked them because it comes with factory style tailpipes which was my biggest concern.
I have to say the system fit perfectly with no fuss,,,very nice setup that you can't even see hanging down at all,,,fits up very nicely. The sound isn't what I was hoping for but it's not bad. I liked the sound of the flowmaster a little better. The Edelbrock system is quiet while idleing and even under light throttle,,,almost a stock sound. When you stand on it the sound is much more to my liking,,,,very deep. I assume that the more I drive the louder it may get,,,since this style muffler uses packing around a perferrated pipe inside that may burn off as time goes on,,,,only time will tell I guess. Overall I am happy with the entire package,,,the hooker headers make it easier to remove the spark plugs and I can actually see the temp sensors in the heads now which were completely covered by the manifolds.
When the track opens we will see what it was worth,,,,I have a data log I am keeping track of with mods,,,started with a bone stock 50,000 mile L-98 and slowly bolting on parts to see what improvements they make,,,still to go are adjustable fuel pressure regulator, 1.6 roller rockers, some other little things to see how quick it will go. Just thought I would share,,,,hope everyone had happy holidays,,,Larry.
