3 Inch exaust cutout on 305
Alright guys i've been pondering this for sometime now...i have finally decided to get an exhaust cutout for my 305 which would be right behind the y pipe. I'm just wondering what kind of horsepower gains i could see...would they be noticable or would i hardley feel anything different other than sound? Thanks guys

Any increase in horsepower will depend on how restrictive your exhaust is after the cut-out. If you have already improved on the stock exhaust system (by replacing it), you'll probably only notice an increase in sound.

I have one on my '88 TPI 305 (LB9) 5 speed car. Ran two 14.73's through the exhaust and Hooker shorty headers with Hooker's mandrel bent Y pipe (3" intermediate pipe to a Thunderbolt brand flowmaster knock off muffler and stock tailpipes) and when I opened the cutout I pulled a 14.47, then let the car cool an hour and did a 14.34. It definitley helped the pull up top. With manifolds and that same system I shifted at 5 grand and now it pulls 52-5300.
Cutout is a Hearthrob brand purchased through JC Whitney, and it is installed where the cat used to reside. I reach under the car with a welding glove on at the track and remove 3 wing nuts to take it off.
