"muffler" or cat?

"muffler" or cat?

what is that thing right after y pipe? Mechanic said my car doesnt have a cat, but i cant hel[p to think it is. Someone said it might be a mini-muffler.

A "thing" after the Y-Pipe would usually be a converter.
