smelly converter?

I installed a Magnaflow converter along with a Dynomax 2.5 inch exhaust on my car this spring. I am satisfied with the performance and sound but the exhaust has an awful smell coming off of it after I shut the car off. It's almost like the oil or "newness" hasn't burned off of it yet. It sometimes smells like something's burning- and I'm always checking underneath to make sure nothing is! Anyone ever heard of this?

Anyone have a guess at all? I figured after 300 miles the smell would have went away.

lol,

I giggled at the title when I first saw this thread
a smelly converter, I thought it was non-sense at first.

Ive never actually exprienced a converter that smelt after
engine shut-off, But something tells me that could be normal
depending on the manufacturer.

I am not running a Magnaflo system, I cant help there..
Do you have any insulation on the exhaust system?
(on headers? or anything that could burn?)

Did anything foreign fall into the exhaust system?
Like a plastic handled screw-driver? I would imagine
that would smelly a but funky

That was sarcasm, ignore that

I actually just put on a Magnaflow high flow converter on my car becuase my old was dirty and would not pass emissions. My car didn't smell when I shut it off, but it would smell when I got on it and led off. Mine smelt like sulfer though, my buddies would be behind me and said they would have to switch lanes. It was bad, anywho, I think that smell is gradually going away, it only does it from time to time now. Perhaps yours will do the same.

Thanks for the feedback guys- I've been told mine smells while driving behind me as well. Hopefully it's something that will just go away.

Ya, it should, and it has to be the converter because my car never smelt like that until that was put on. Good luck to you.

I have a magnaflow, and yes it smelled like **** for the first 500 miles. All it is is settling the beads in the converter and rubbing it around. Give it awhile and the smell will go away.

Some of those converters come coated in a plastic wrap and if the tech doesnt remove it before installing it sometimes they can smell. (I work @ a shop that does custom exaust) should go away though.
