Couple of Exhaust questions...
Hey everyone,
I am having a couple problems with my exhaust. My car is a 91 RS 305TBI. I have an edelbrock TES header system, Maganflow High-Flow 3" Cat & an American Thunder Catback.
Question #1:
I am thinking my cat is either hollowed out or failed. Does anyone have any expierence with Maganflow Cats? Do they usually last? What is a good quality replacement? I would love an OEM one, but they are major $$$. Here are my symptoms that lead me to the believe that the converter is bad:
-Exhaust STINKS!! Not like rotten eggs, its just a really potent exhaust smell. It will start to make your feel sick after a while.
-Crackiling under light acceleration & engine braking that wasnt there when the cat was new.
Question #2:
How do you reduce header tick? I CANT STAND IT!! Whenever I am crusing or lightly accelerating, all I hear is tick, tick, tick, tick.... And it pretty loud. It Makes the car sound like a piece of crap.
Thanks in Advance,
Mark B

I think i spit the guts out the tailpipe. A couple chunks of cat guts came of them 2 weeks ago, but they may have been from the stock cat?

The ticking sound should not be that bad. First I would check to see you don't have any exhause leaks. Mainly at the header gaskets and at the collectors. Also, it's possible that the "tick" your hearing is not the headers but infact the guts of the car bouncing around.
As far as cats go, any aftermarket cat is going to do you right.
