Help in customizing exhaust
Hey, sup peeps? I need help with my 3rd gen exhaust since i don't know an extreme amount about cars yet. I recently purchased this 85 camaro with a carburated 350 engine. It has nice headers and all which i don't have a prob with, but i'm not sure about my current exhaust. I want an exhaust that will deliver me POWER, I'm going to be putting stuff under the hood so i want an exhaust that won't choke the engine out. The current exhaust I have I believe is illegal which doesn't really bother me honestly, both sides go from the manifold directly under the doors to form a side exhaust with two cherry bombs and the tailpipes a few inches short of the rear tires. (no catalytic converters) I damaged one side and need some exhaust work for that reason. So I guess what I want to ask is if I want performance, should I fix it as it is, or should I install a whole new expensive system like this:
Camaro/Firebird 84-92 Borla Stainless Steel Exhaust System - BOR157-14888
Again, the legal issue doesn't bother me too much, i've already been pulled over for routine checks and police never noticed. So, will buying a whole new system be a waste of money and a drain of power or more of an upgrade? thanks.

I believe you need to post this in the exhaust forum. I'm pretty sure a mod will move it for you. As for your question, what kind of headers are on it? LT's? Shorty's? What are your plans for the motor? Do you want true duals, or just a regular OEM style cat-back? A 3" exhaust at least for your motor. As for the Borla system you are looking at, its a good system as far as I have heard, but a bit on the pricy side. If money is not a problem, and thats what you want, go for it. Just get a y-pipe for the headers, and if you wanna stay emissions legal aka inspections, get a high-flow cat. Then the Borla will bolt on after that. Its really all up to you. Good luck with your project!
