Need help with Buying Headders?
I have read through numerous forums about headders. I keep getting lost in all the Information. I just wanted to know which headders would be a good set on my 91 RS 305 TBI. I plan on doing an engine swap after i finish building the car. So i plan on removing the Smog Pump and Emissions first. And then Id like to Replace the Stock manifolds with Headders. I would like to keep my A/C and Heat (very important). Also, what other goodies will i need for the headders project. Im looking for a pair that will match up to the Exhaust i have now. Will i need a y pipe? Which headders will fit the best, sound good, and let me keep my air? I appreciate any help i can get before I order them Tuesday.

Many member here will recommend the Hooker 2055's, which come with a very well regarded Y-pipe (a Catco 9118 and a Hooker catback would be everything you desire). Attempting to use any of your OEM exhaust is defeating the purpose of headers, i.e. a free-flowing exhaust. The 2055's have a provision for emissions so those would need to be cut and welded (why not keep the emissions stuff; it drains little power). I use the Hooker on my 350/330, so they're good for a future up-grade. Headers will not affect your A/C one way or another.

So i stopped in to Gear Head Performance the other day. A very respectable speed shop in my area. And asked questions about headders. Needless to say, im buyying Flowtech Headders. I understand there reputation online. But the guy at the counter who owns the place said there made by hooker, and there not a bad headder for the price. He said for 70 bucks more you could get the same thing just with a well known name. Also Flow tech has that custom Y pipe i need. Im gettin both the Y pipe and the Headders for 218 buck out the door.

I don't know what he means by "the same thing just with a well known name". Flowtech is a well enough known name, just what they're known for is being not that great. The Y pipe they come with is pretty bad. It's not really even a Y, the passenger side just T's into the crossover.

yeah the flowtechs do have a bad name online and i think the old saying stands true.
the aint smoke without fire.
i know little about headers , but i do know that there ar hundreds of guys on this and other forums that have tried them and said they were junk, and that was enough to put me off,.
I'm probably like you pal and cant afford the hooker 2055's so i'm going for the hedman 68470 and matching Y-pipe 17470 , have you looked into those ??? they seem to get a better wrap than the flowtech's
