no cat no backfire? what cuases the backfire?

no cat no backfire? what cuases the backfire?

i have no cat on my car with a 2 1/2in cat back dynomax system and it doesnt backfire at all. would it pop if i moved up to a performace y pipe headers and a 3in cat back? im just trying to figure out what combos cause this so i can avoid it thanx

I have hooker shorties, custom y-pipe that y's behind the tranny, no cat, and a borla muffler and mine pops like crazy.

I think it might be different from engine to engine. I have 2055 headers, 3" y pipe, no cat, and an 80 series flowmaster muffler. I get no pop at all. Even if I rev it up in park/neutral.
