Backfire when revving?

ok simple problem.. when i rev my l98... it backfires about 3 or 4 times.... is that due to my taking out my cat system or my flowthrough muffler? i think its both.. i know a car needs some backpreasure... could that be it?

If the car is basically stock except for the cat delete, I'd blame it on that.

What did you do with your smog stuff when you took your cat off?

It's most likely do to the no cat. Mine will pop when I rev it when it is cold and in open loop (no, I almost never do this when its cold). But when the engine warms up and in closed loop, I can rev away with no snap/crackle/pop.
