Should I bypass the CAT
I no longer have to take the emmisions test in my state. Yeah!!! Can I now by pass the Cat and go straight to the muffler? My car is currently running perfect and I don't want to screw that up. My exhaust needs no repairs but my muffler guy can make anything. If I bypass what are the pros and cons? Will my car get louder? I like it quite to be honest. But I would not mind an increase in hp. I got a 305 TBI w/tpi cold air.

There are many other mods you can do that will get more power for your buck, not to mention they won't pollute as much.

I understand that. But is the CAT a necessity? Is it restrictive to my hp? Is it needed for my car to run and be tuned properly? Or should I just not worry about it until it is time to replace? And when it is time to replace should I or should I go straight back?

don't delete the cat. it will get louder, and it will pollute much more.

Thanks Steve.
Now why get a CATCO? What are it's benefits? Do they have a website?

spend your money on something else, no need to buy a high flow cat for a low flow tbi motor you would never notice the difference

if your not poluting the enviroment, your not producing enuf power, get that cat outta there, increase your fuel pressure and smell the ozone layer thinning.

305 TBI, we're talking 170 HP right? On a stock LT1, with and without a cat the difference was 4 HP. I doubt taking the cat off a TBI is going to make any noticeable difference in power. And if you like it quiet, taking the cat off will just make it louder.
I currently have no cat, but I'm planning on putting a Catco in there this spring. Without the converter in there, it pops when you rev it in one spot and occasionally when decelerating. I don't like it. Besides, the more you read about catalytic technology, the more you'll realize the benefits far exceed the noise differences. I played around with a catalytic woodstove over Christmas time and it's even more pronounced as far as how good the technology works.
My advice for you is just change out the muffler but leave the cat on there. That way it'll be a bit peppier sounding but still quiet enough.
I like the idea of having 300-400 HP with something that pollutes as much as a hybrid car. That's efficiency. Gutting the cat on a stock vehicle just seems lazy and red neck like.

Thanks Reid. Okay so the CAT stays. Other than that I am happy with the exhaust. Especially the tips. I have a Flowmaster.
