heat riser

Does anyone know if they make a heat riser eliminator kit? Of the several pieces that are missing from this car, the heat riser is one of them. I already have the crossover pipe etc and I am not putting headers on it. I know I can get one from a junkyard and put in, but just assume not put one in at all as thats not part of my plan. If not, I guess I'll build my own eliminator. Thanks

Yes they do. What year is you car and what size gasket does it take? They make them for 2", 2 1/4" and 2 1/2"

If I'm not reading the original post correctly, pardon. Carbed cars used a EFE valve with a butterfly. TPI cars simply used a spacer (essentially the EFE valve without butterfly). No gaskets were used.

I thought they did make them, but cant seem to find them. Anyway, it is a 1984 Z/28 with the 305. It was originally the "G" code wich makes it the H.O. I am installing a rebuilt 305 and using the stock exhaust manifolds as a new crossover pipe came with the car when I rescued it, and am kind of doing a low buck build (read cheap). I went out to the shop and the pass side manifold has a 2 1/8'' hole so I'm not sure if I need the 2 or the 2 1/4. I just really did'nt want to by a new riser as I wont be using it, and one from a junkyard is more than likely junk anyway. If worse came to worse, I could fab an eliminator, but if it's just as cheap to buy one, I'd go that route. Thanks for the reply.

Would the spacer from an efi car basically be an eliminator? The local junkyard has an 86 tipped over so I could get the trans crossmember out of it so the exhaust parts would be easy to get to and I have to go get more stuff off of it anyway. Again, thanks for the replies.

I have a used but basically brand new heat riser I took of my 82Z in 82 when the car was new. It has less then 500 miles on it. Let me measure the opening tonight and see if it might work. If your interested and it does I'll sell it to you for $45.00. I thnk that is a fair price. Let me know your thoughts. Either way I can let you know which one you will need.

This from one of my old posts:

I purchased a new one from GM a couple of years ago, so that may be a possibility. I think I may still have mine around somewhere too. TPI cars used a spacer instead of the valve, which might be something to consider since both the L69 and TPI cars used the same exhaust--the spacer, of course, would require no modification.

For L69: Valve, W/Actr, EFE (GM 5234840)
For Lg4: (GM 5234845)
Spacer, C/Ovr Pipe 85-88 (GM 5234599)
Spacer, C/Ovr Pipe 89 (GM 5234327)
Spacer, C/Ovr Pipe 90-91 (GM 10113080)

The EFE is part of emissions, the spacer exhaust.

By the way, there was some controversy several years ago about whether the LG4 and L69 EFE valve was different or not (Note that the p/n's are different). Might be less restriction one way or the other with a simple spacer.

Thanks for the info JamesC. I can probably get the spacer that is on the tpi car thats in the junkyard for free, so then I can see how it matches up.
