header wrap ?'s

I have a set of Moroso Super Max 11mm wires that the #1 boot on the plug is hitting the header. Would it be more beneficial to get header wrap, plug boot protectors (like DEI"s) or use a combination of the two to get the boot off the header? When you use header wrap and get the engine to normal operating temps, can you touch a header with wrap and not burn your hand or is the wrap still too hot to touch? A set of boot protectors are ~$55 and a 15' roll of header wrap is $10...

Re: header wrap ?'s

Header wraps do more harm then good. They trap moisture up against the pipes and rot the pipes out prematurely.

Header wrap is bad. Get some wire separators or boot protectors.

Header Wrap is bad on a daily driven car, parked outside

Re: header wrap ?'s

this is all true header wrap sux, if ur running precut plugs that come as kit designed for ur car i would throw that crap away and get urself a set from summit or watever and make them urself, i got sick of the boots touching etc and those crazy long wires and got a set of mallory performance wires and a couple hours later with some wire looms i have custom wires that fit the engine and have no clearance/touching probs, if u really wanted to get the boots but a new set of wires will prob only cost u 30$ and a few hours of your time...also find someone who has the tool to cut and chrimp them.

Why not just shorten the ones you got?

Re: header wrap ?'s

see if you can get the headers coated. do not do the header wraps. does anyone know if those thermo tec aluminized kits are any good or are they just as bad as header wraps. i know they also have a silicone based spray but i dont know if its any good.

you mean my spark plugs? I was thinking about getting header plugs but I read on here lately that people have not had good experiences with them(Accel). I may give them a try along with some boot protectors, but if i were to use header wrap I was just wraping it around the area where the boot is hitting the header, not every pipe...

Re: header wrap ?'s

I meant the wires. Sorry. I just put accel wires and shorty plugs on my '84 Z. Made a world of difference. I'll read more carefully next time! Get 90 degree boots and the shorty plugs!

Re: header wrap ?'s

I already have 90* boots and they still hit. I have Champion plugs now and tried to switch to Autolite but with Autolites I couldnt get the boot on at all! With the Champions I can at least get the boot on. Do you know witch Accel plugs you got (part number)? I'm not sure which reach would be best yet, and what heat ranges they are...

8198
plug no. 574s
resistor
Is the ones I put in. Go to Accel and look up what you need. Not sure if these are right for my engine, it's not listed on the back of the package, but they seem to be fine.

Re: header wrap ?'s

That plastic box sucks! I will be taking mine off shortly. The rest of the a/c is already gone. The number 8 header bolts for my flow techs were tightend some what from under neith, after cutting and grinding a open end wrench to get to it from the top. Good luck!

on't know about the new headers. You probably will, so just keep goin'
