catalytic converter cut-off---yes or no

Hey guys! I have a 91' Camaro RS, V8 5.0 and I just got a new Flowmaster muffler and new dual exhaust coming out of the muffler. I did this to make it louder and it still isn't quite as loud as I want it. Does anyone know if it is worth it to cut off the catalytic converter?

Well, I have a 92 RS with the flowmaster and no cat, and I'd say it's pretty loud. cuting off the cat should make it louder. Not sure it'll help performace though, and inspection could be a problem depending on where you live.

i had the same problem with my flowmaster when i put it in. it takes a while before you'll hear a difference when the muffler fills with some carbon build up.

If you have inspection get a good high-flow, it will change the sound. Flowmasters sound better with time.

what flowmaster are you using? 80 series? 40, 50, delta 44? ill assume an 80 series (what i have on mine) its much quieter than the 40 and 50, you want loud go for those. i have a high flow cat that is gutted, it doesnt make it noticbly louder, it does have a slighty more throaty sound

I make the power and ET's in my sig thru cats, and pass CA smog checks cleaner than stock. If I can do it, so can you. Also, its federally illegal to remove, bypass, tamper, or disable any of the emissions equipment on your street car, regardless of your state or local emissions testing requirements.
