Need a heavy deep rumble..How?
I have a 91 camaro,it has a 350 .40 over, small cam, shorty headers, crane roller rockers, edelbrock intake and carb..And the exhaust on it is a flowmaster,,It has the Y-pipe setup and it doesnt sound good to me..It's to light sounding and has no rumble, pops all the time and almost sounds like a 6-banger..
And ive noticed all the aftermarket have that same Y pipe setup,so im thinking about doing true duals with dumps before the axles...
So I'll do 2.5" pipes from the headers(H pipe?),12" resonators, and turndowns...But what mufflers will give me the deepest sounding rumble? Thanks in advance
also does anyone make a true dual setup for our cars? or even an h-pipe?

Thanks for the quick reply..I'm actually going to do this myself, but I'm just wondering which mufflers will offer the deepest sound..Not a magnaflow deep sound but a deep rumble that shakes everything.

Re: Need a heavy deep rumble..How?
Most of my reply got cut off so here I go again. My `88 Iroc sounds like an anemic six cylinder but is one of the fastest cars I have had. It would keep up with my `69 RoadRunner and `71 Charger of my youth. Good quality headers are a must, coated so they last with at least 3/8 flanges. There`s got to be a way to install all the good stuff and make it smog legal if you live in a smog state. It`s easier to smog if you have never been labled a "gross polluter", that can be a death sentence.

Get Spintech. The sound is amazing and you can go from rumbling to down right loud. We put the Spintech Sportsman with Hooker headers on my gf's 92 TPI with a single stock cat - it sounds really damn good. The catback was a 3" Hooker, but the Hooker muffler is super quiet so we replaced the muffler with a Spintech.
I had a pair of Spintech Super Pro Street's on my 2006 GTO. Those things were LOUD! You could here me 1/2 mile away or more. Great tone, but too loud for my tastes so I sold them.

Re: Need a heavy deep rumble..How?
if you can work it in there, i would try get an X-pipe.. it supposedly will give you more power than an H and even more than just straight true duals..
for rumble, either a bullet type like dynomax bullets or spintech.. i believe borla makes a nice "muffler" too.. i have car chemistry header inserts as my mufflers with straight 2.5" coming out infront of the rear tires and its damn loud..

Re: Need a heavy deep rumble..How?
To the true dual part: unless you're running a massive heads/cam combo or maybe FI, you really don't need a true dual from performance perspective. Just get a decent 3" system. True duals run into problem since there's no where to run the piping on the driver's side, clearance is an issue.
Get a 3" catback (I think the Hooker one is $220 or so on Summit?), a Spintech muffler, and you have a badass sounding exhaust.

If you have the stock converters, get high-flows, they make a difference. What's the model number on your Flowmaster?

Thanks for all the replies
"IROCZTWENTYGR8" I dont know the exact model number, but it's the american thunder series with the 80 series muffler with the 2 big tips in the back..And I don't have a cat anymore, there is a 12" resonator in it's place..
I think I'm going to go duals,,I just need that sound. I mean don't get it twisted, it sounds pretty good at idle with the cam and headers, but when you get on it,it just pops when you get off the gas..It drives me crazy
Basically right now it sounds like this http://youtube.com/watch?v=nGTLJ9nS2aI
and I want it to sound like this http://videos.streetfire.net/search/...b6017f6e54.htm

Re: Need a heavy deep rumble..How?
that second clip you provided sounded like true duals with no muffling on them or at the least an SLP LM2 perhaps?

Re: Need a heavy deep rumble..How?
The SLP LM2 is a nice sounding system. The muffler that comes with the Flowmaster AT system is actually more tame than their 3" in dual 2.5" 80 Series replacement muffler, which is smaller and really nice sounding. Listen to some of IROCThe5.7L's clips. I did the exhaust separate instead of buying the whole system just to use that muffler, sounds more like a regular 40 Series, deeper and louder, especially when "broken in." The LM2 has a Flowmaster type sound, except it's louder and maybe a little less deep.
I'd rather have a car sound like the first video you posted, the second one had a nice idle but sounded terrible when revved.

Re: Need a heavy deep rumble..How?
If you want the sound of that LS1 you'll need LTs, no cats and a straight through muffler (borla XR-1, Dynomax Bullet, SLP Loudmouth, etc.).
You might also want to think about GMMG. $700 - $850 depending on whether you want tips or not, but badass sound and top notch construction.
Or just go with dumped LTs.

Re: Need a heavy deep rumble..How?
i was thinking about running long tubes on my car and putting 2 slp loud mouth shot guns and then dumping them before the axle. has anyone done this and is this a good idea? im kinda new in the exhaust category.

Re: Need a heavy deep rumble..How?
IMO Flowmaters are not that great sounding unless on a Mustang 5.0 or 4.6 with no cats. I had the 40's on my 90 GT with some bolt on's and catless H-pipe, full tail pipes and it sounded good. had then on my 72 Nova with a mild 307, long tubes into 2.5 pipes-true duels and dumped in front of the axle and was not all that impressed-not bad, but not what I was after.
My TA has a very low rumble to it and it's a Stock LB9, but I also have a very cheap set up that some like-others don't My cat was clogged and the cat back was rotted out so it all had to go, ran into other issues so just needed some sort of exhaust for the time being, but I kinda like it so it's staying for a bit. I just have a 2.5" 24" long Summit glass pack bolted to the Y-pipe with about a foot long 30 degree bend pipe that is turned down a bit, it's like a dump in the center of the car. it's loud, but not as bad as you would think so that is why it's staying for now. The Summit Racing glass packs are more like the Race Bullit's than say a cheery bomb

Re: Need a heavy deep rumble..How?
Is the sound more important to you than having some crappyazz chrome tips hanging out from under your ride????
If so.........lose the crossflow flowcrapper and run a single straight thru muffler with a single outlet tucked up out of sight......
the sound is ALWAYS more important............IMHO...
and an exhaust system is meant to be heard not seen........
Sorry if you like the tips look................it just turns me off all together, regardless of the vehicle its on... and the sound of a flowmaster has become REALY tired to my ears........just an opinion................i have lots...and most are not very popular.

Re: Need a heavy deep rumble..How?
that will sound good. the ground clearance with true duals/long tubes is sometimes an issue especially if ur lowered tho.
