Catco Dual cats dead.

Hi all,

well one for sure, I replaced the factory dual cats with these ones last summer, Now i have a very noticible rattle at idle and above from one cat, ( the rear most one ) or the one that does NOT have the hanger attachment on it. My question is do i replace BOTH at once or do i just replace the rattling one? And If i replace just one i was looking at the Magnaflo universal cat # 94315 it is the same size and dimensions as the catco one. I just am a little held back with using the cat co one again as it failed so soon, Oh BTW the car does not have any mechnical problems it is very well maintained and it was/ has been tuned for a perfect AF ratio across the board so that should rule out that possibility, any suggestions ??? thanks GTA

I'm unfamilair with the dual cat set-up, but could the heat shield be the problem?

if you go to summit site and check part # 4153 CatCo dual cat set up then you can see what i am talking about . Any one else have some problems with the catco verters> GTA

as for the heat shield i was under the car trying to locate the rattle and it is not the shield it is most surely orginating from inside the cat... you can tap it cold and get the same rattle..good grief

Re: Catco Dual cats dead.

I put in the CatCo system about two years ago. Now I did have some idle issues with one dead injector, and found my EGR valve was not operating. I have read that this can damage a Cat, but it should not have been that easy. The car passed smog before and after the install (of course much better after since it replaced the originals) But with only a few thousand miles, I got the rattle. I decided to replace both (it was actually both rattling).

At the price of new ones and install, I went with another bolt on.
I chose the Magnaflow (from Performance Peddler) at special $264. Summit wanted about $70 for shipping, but it was free at PP. Lower cost than the Catcos.

I am installing them now.

Re: Catco Dual cats dead.

I had Catco dual cat replacements installed September 2005

Along with Edelbrock ceramic coated TES headers
and Flowmaster 3 inch cat-back system.

So far (keeping fingers crossed) no problems.
But then again, nearing 150,000 on an old B4c
there are so many rattles & noises that I probably
wouldn't notice one coming from the cats.

Plus I'm starting to have EGR issues.
