Custom pipes or aftermarket?
I have a 87 GTA T/A and a thought came to mind...do you think it would be good to have duel(full duel, 2 cats) custom pipes made to come out the side, kinda the viper style or just stick with Borla, Flowmaster, SLP etc.? I thought it might give it a unique look. Any help with ideas, comments, and prices welcomed. thanks

side exit would very look cool,as long as its done right.
i would cut 2 exit holes in the side spoiler (obviously) and add some kind of trim on the diameter of the hole itself. i wouldn't just hack a hole and stick the tips through it. maybe some 304 stainless rings that would be attached by stainless rivets. do ya know what i mean???? its kinda hard to explain.

Re: Custom pipes or aftermarket?
This has been talked about and done countless times. If you are going to use some big pipe, say good bye to ground clearance. The DS was never designed to have a pipe under there. If you go oval you have a better shot at it, but be ready to pay out the A$$ for those pipes. You looking for a cheap GREAT exhaust. Go with a nice catback and move on. I ran true 3" duals with bullets, sounds insane. Installed a 4" cat back and made more power. And sounds even better.
Save yourself the headache and go big cat back. If you are not running up by the 400 RWHP range, just stick with a nice 3". You are not loosing any power due to the pipes.
My 4" catback cost me a lot, around 800, but my true dual cost me about 100. It was just way to loud and had bad clearance.
I have skipped a lot of stuff here, but I could talk about this for hours. Check out my CD site for pics and more info.

the side pipes are cool there is someone selling a set of chrome one on here somewhere. i might still have the pic. The big prob is the noise it will work if you dont use the car to often BUT you are going to find yourself getting in a lot of ****. I am running a 3" side pipe off my dump but all i have to do is cap it up and it streetable again.
Dennis set up sounds real nice, he has heard my car too so he could tell just how loud it sounds.

Yeah, those side pipes are crazy loud. Like police hating you loud. haha. I like mine, lets people know I am coming, and when i pick my gf up I rev instead of honk
, but she can usually just hear the idle. Anyways, Just take measurments, and remember you are in the real world and not some movie, stuff has to work and be comfortable day in and day out on a DD, not just for cruises.
