V6 Sound > V8 Sound ?
I tried hard to get that old V8 sound back and I think I ended up with something I like better.

Re: V6 Sound > V8 Sound ?
Yeeeeaaaaa, think i like the sound of a V8 turbo better than a 6 turbo any day. But it doesnt sound bad by any means, if you were to do a swap, why wouldnt you wanna go with a 8 right? If it is stock like a TTA then of course leave it alone.

And I wouldn't go with an 8 because I only need a 6 to spank your 8. And it isn't stock.

Well, seeing as you dont know what im packing, you have no idea, as nither do i know exactly what you have, we may never find out, just one thing, my 383 is a temporary enging for somthing bigger and better, and i bet my car for yours that if you beat me, you have more money into your car than i do. That is something i am proud of, i have never been beaten by somone with less money in their vehicle.

If ya want to see how it will stack up against an 8 I live right by flint we could meet up and make a nice little video for U-tube...I do need to get some slicks or something though right now I am doing fish tails all through first and second with 255 good years out back but I still ran a 13.20 leaving 2 300ft black marks down the track.

Well, on my end i say,"Hmmm....boost on a 6 VS spray on a 8?" Mine is basically a street legal toy, but it is not a thing to laugh at.

Re: V6 Sound > V8 Sound ?
If I was a bettin man I would put my money on the 8 with spray...the 8 will get out of the hole quicker and when the boost starts comming on the 6 the 8 can hit the spray. That would depend on so many other factors though...I have seen some real mean v6 turbos and I would never under estimate one! But I am running a 150 shot so my offer still stands if ya wanna run it and see what shes got, I will run ya off the bottle and if you beat me then its realy on ...getting real F***ing cold here in Michigan though going to put her up for the winter pretty quick.

Firefox will not let me send IM for some reason??? Who is we? You got other people that want to race too? Wife wants to bring her camaro too so she can see how it stacks up...try pm,ing me and I will see if I can recieve. Lapeer works for me if you'all are already meeting up there.
PS: I see you are running a Dana60 out back, I was just wondering if you had any pics of under you car, I want to see how it tucks up in there because I have one on my truck and the pumkin is huge, did it fit alright? Did you buy a bolt in somewhere?

Re: V6 Sound > V8 Sound ?
I am trying to round of some local guys to go to Lapeer that I know. Do you have AIM or anything? My AIM is Turbo91Bird
The only picture I have is when it came off the crate. It fits nicely though and Strange Engineering sells them for 82-02 Fbodys but you have to convert to disc brakes if you have drums (they sell a kit).

edit: found some more on my HD

I heard there are some big boys that play in Jersey. To bad you live to far away. Detroit Motor City vs. the Jersey boys would be fun. We are trying to get something together for a Detroit vs. Chicago thing next spring. Should be a blast.
And you're right. It's a V6, you can't lose right?

To add some fuel to this fire, a 6 has some serious weight advantages. Well, at least until you run across an LS1 powered 3rd gen. Then you are closer to even (front weight wise).

I dont think a turbo 6 will save you any weight...it's still an iron block but then you have the weight of the turbo, intercooler, plumbing, thicker headers or manifolds, ect ect...

jersey!!!! yeaaa man could be interestin. theres not that big a diff in weight from the 3.8L iron 6. as said turbos/piping/ yadda yadda, not to mention that rear ends gotta weight more than a 10bolt. LS1 blahhh they need the aluminum cuz the rest of the car weighs so much. 3rd gens i thought where lighter
ima hook up a pair of leaf blowers and line up wit the 6
"And you're right. It's a V6, you can't lose right?" yea u lose 2 cylinders and dignity lol

Re: V6 Sound > V8 Sound ?
Like I said I will not ever under estimate a V6 turbo and you shouldnt either they are proven on the track. If he shows up with slicks and th350 with trans brake and spools that dam thing up to 6 grand before take off he will probably beat me pretty bad. Like I said the best time I got this summer was 13.20 with no traction through 1st and 2nd, that was off the bottle though. I am afraid to put slicks on it because I only have a stock 10bolt but even with street tires I think I can hit mid to high 12's on 150 shot of spray. This aint about braggin rights here this is just to see if this mans work was worth it...he obviously has alot of time and money into his ride and I am sure he wants to know how it is going to stack up against a respectable V8. Anyway show his ride some respect it is a 3rd gen not a civic or V6 mustang with a wing!!!

I loved seeing the GN's at the local strip, but my only problem with them was how lame they sounded compared to all the smallblocks and big blocks out there...

Goodbye 700r4.
I was wondering how long it would last. All I have now is 1st and 2nd gear. And those are some short gears so I had to ride that all the way home. Never got to Lapeer since everyone that was supposed to go bailed on me. They said they wanted to go racing Saturday night around Flint instead. I am just glad it happened to me in Flint then Lapeer. A lot shorter ride home for me.
So I guess its time to put it up for the winter also. Save up for a stronger 700r4 this winter so it can be ready for spring...
Stevo, you're from Maryland...lol If you want to come to Michigan next spring you are more then welcome to meet me somewhere.

Yep...lol!
We was out playing last night till about 9 oclock then went to a party. Any of the guys you was with driving a black turbo stang? He smoked my a$$...lol! I could hear it spoolin good as he was leaving me, probably a twin turbo set up. That car musta been a 10sec car easy. Wasnt your tranny a probuilt? If not been hearing good things about them...I got a TCI and it has not fail me yet but I paid alot for that thing.

Re: V6 Sound > V8 Sound ?
trans was rebuilt with heavy duty clutches and some standard weak parts were replacement, but nothing extreme. Transgo, etc...
I knew the trans would go eventually, just didn't know when. I am debating if I should get a stronger 700r4 or a turbo400.
And no, don't know of any black turbo mustangs around Flint.

Maybe the mods should move this to theoretical and street racing. Thats kinda where the "mine is gigger than your is" discussions belong.

Back on Topic then.

I think it sounds mean at idle and it sounds crazy at WOT. But. At WOT, it doesn't sound anything like a V8. But not to say I hate it. I am convinced that you can make a V6 sound good when I wasn't before. You just have to know how to do it. Because some just sound god awful.

I prefer the 2004R because of the first gear. 2.76 is nice and the 3.08 from a 700R4 is a little tall if you're running deep gears in the rear.
I love the turbo 6 sound! Ever since the turbo Buicks have hit the street, a set of turbo mufflers on them is intimidating!
Great car, keep it up!

Re: V6 Sound > V8 Sound ?
Yeah. I am not giving up my Overdrive. I don't really want to go with a 200r4 because then I have to buy a new TC, driveshaft, and torque arm. I would rather stick with a strong 700r4 but I am worried if you can buld them strong enough.
I agree, some sound awful at higher rpms. I don't think mine does though. I wish I had some video of it. Maybe I will do a 1-2 gear pull and get video of that.

Re: V6 Sound > V8 Sound ?
the odd thing i noticed about mine is anything above 3k in first gear sounds like POS, 2nd gear after you get above 3500 rpm and before 3000 rpm it sounds half way decent, 4th and 5th gears at high rpms sound decent. So i just left it as a daily driver and take my bird to auto-x. Some day when i have some money, sbc is going into my stealth.

Re: V6 Sound > V8 Sound ?
It sounds good at idle. Dunno what it really sounds like revving though, only heard the small revs. Does it still have the bumblebee buzz at higher rpms? That's how a 4.3 v6 is.. sounds like a v8 at low rpms(becuase its basically a 350 minus two pistons) then as soon as it revs its true colors come out.
I dont think it would keep up with a built(or boosted) v8 though.. would like to see videos though.

You can get a 700r built strong enough. Check out Bowtie Overdrives. They've got some good ones. I'm sure there are plenty of other companies doing them as well such as Pro Built, to name one...
Maybe this one: http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com/cata...m.php?ITEMID=9
I think the Buick turbo does better with the 2.76 first gear, that's why I like them. For my style of driving, it seems to work better.

Cool.
And I didn't know a 700r4 torque arm would work with a 200r4 transmission. And I didn't think the 200r4 was the same length as a 700r4.

The torque arm does not work with the 2004r trans. The Spohn crossmember mounts your stock torque arm to the crossmember instead.
The two transmission are almost identical in length and use the same driveshaft. I have interchanged them in third gens and 78-88 G bodies as well.

Well either way, I am still replacing a torque arm and a torque converter and I guess I am not replacing a driveshaft (least expensive part, hah, figures). So I am still sticking with the 700r4 if it can be built to withstand this motor. I hear mixed reviews on that but I will see in the spring I guess.

You can re-use your torque arm.
It just bolts to the Spohn crossmember, not the transmission. Sorry for the confusion.
