will a blown muffler pass smog

i finally got my car fixed after working on it and saving for 2.5 years. one of many things thats needed replacing was the fuel pump. ive lowered 4 gastanks and changed 3 pumps on 3rd gens. i noticed when removing the exhaust 4 bolt flange intermidant pipe and muffler as whole, i noticed about a pound of rusted sheet metal came out the pipe when bangd the muffler hard. My question is, WILL I PASS SMOG even with a bad muffler?. FYI muffler sounds good, but its obvious that muffler is blown, it doesnt sound like a "chug!! chug!! chug chug!" like a flowmaster. but when revved to 2k, i decribe it as a wooooooo!!!aaaaaa! i HATE HATE HATE THE TONE AT 2K BUT WHEN DROPPED TO 550-1000K, I GET A DEEP BA! BA! BA! BA!, and it resonants everything.

Not sure where you live, but here (and I've heard of similar stories elsewhere) they will give you a no-test for leaking exhaust.

As long as all the exhaust goes out the tailpipe, they probably won't give you any problem.

I worked in for the emissions company in Illinois for a summer. You could have a pipe that was half welded and leaking like mad out of the otherside and we still tested you. We legally had to test everyone regardless of how loud the car was or if they were running no cat and no muffler. Take your car in, if too little exhaust is coming out of the tail pipe it will read an error code, they will try to restrict the exhaust to get a better reading and if it still doesnt work we tell you to come back later when you fix it, but it doesnt count as a fail. This was all back a few years ago, now Illinois doesnt test cars pre 96
