True dual question...
Alright, this is my current exhaust setup... I have pacesetter headers that go to a 3 inch Y pipe, all the way over the rear axle, and into a flowmaster 80 series... I want my new exhaust to be this: Keep my headers, and from the headers back do a custom or aftermarket X pipe, preferably 3 inch and go into 2 super 44 flowmasters and then just dump them before the axle... I am aware that I am probably going to have to install it myself, so do yall have any tips or links to running my pipes? Or even if there is an aftermarket X pipe I can buy that will fit just fine under my car? One more thing, how do I go about mounting 2 mufflers before the axle?

Re: True dual question...
there would be no real benefit to it with the shorties. i'd say get a set of longtubes

I have Hedman long tubes, 2.5" pipes into an X pipe and dual Flowmaster 40's with turn downs. Sounds pretty good, but there isn't as much ground clearance as I would have liked.

I know that I would probably benefit with longtubes, but for now... Could I make it work? Or would my best bet be to get some longtubes, then get the x pipe, then get the mufflers over a period of time, because I am not rich lol and then put it all together and put it on myself?

Re: True dual question...
How much ground clearance do you have? I have shorty headers straight dual exhaust side exit pipes. And i have about 3 to 4inches of ground clearance.

Re: True dual question...
be aware that any muffler before the axle will significantly lower the ground clearance of the car, so whatever you end up doing, get the lowest profile mufflers possible, i had mine ripped off in a few potholes, got pricey after a while. what motor do you have? with a 305 you wont notice any real difference between straight pipe-to-muffler and x-pipe-to-muffler. 350 and bigger there will be a small difference

Re: True dual question...
i've been posting these pics on every thread it seems. if you want something that's gonna be different, give you maximum ground clearance with longtubes, and have EXCELLENT scavenging. see, this big y-pipe junction i have works the same exact way an x-pipe does. it's all in the geometery and layout of the system to get it to work correctly. here's my car:

here you can see just how low my car sits and what kind of ground clearance i have:

isnt that pretty much in the same place as you had your true duals?

Re: True dual question...
yes, but this has more clearance, cause i could tuck that muffler up into the tunnel and the y-junction acts just like an x-pipe. sound is similar to an x-pipe true dual setup too.

Re: True dual question...
i think i might be stealing the thread but was there any power loss or gain when u went from true duals to single 3.5?

Re: True dual question...
actually, i think it makes more power because it's essentially an x-pipe instead of an h-piped dual setup.
