ceramic coated headers rust??

i have a set of ceramic coated eldebrock TES headers on my car, and the other day i noticed my headers have developed some very light but noticeable rust. i didnt think ceramic coated headers were supposed to rust. my car has been sitting for a while, i dont drive it in the winter. i start my car up and look it over a little in the winter occasionally and i noticed it. is it normal for these to do this to a slight extent. will it eventually ruin my 450 dollar headers?

Re: ceramic coated headers rust??

if you are talking about the "coating" that comes with the edelbrock headers... it is not a coating at all, its just to protect the headers during shipping, i could have done the same "coating" job from a $4.99 can of paint from autozone. if you actually had them coated from another source i.e. Jet-Hot or similar it should not have rust at all or ever, i got some jet-hot edelbrocks on an iroc for the past 6 years or so... they are just dull but still good.

Re: ceramic coated headers rust??

i understand that the "ti-tech" finish is garbage. these are not "ti-tech" but ceramic coated TES headers. edlebrock makes their headers in "ti-tech" finishes and "ceramic coated", these are the ceramic coated headers. i was under the belief that ceramic coated headers should not rust at all. my y-pipe has the ti-tech finish and it is much rustier than the headers. for some reason only the headers are ceramic coated.

i know this doesn't help u,but this is one of many reasons why people don't like the edels.

u could send them to jet-hot and have it coated or buy new ones. i do feel ur pain. u pay all this money for headers and this happens.
good luck.

Re: ceramic coated headers rust??

I have a set of Hooker "ceramic coated" headers and after having them 5 or 6 years they got all rusted. I didn't want to send them away to have them coated so I sandblasted the headers and painted them black.
