hooker makes a y-pipe for there headers. Hooker Headers 16767HKR. search the part number on summit. it's like $240. it looks like it's for a bolt on cat.

Do you have dual or single cat?
If dual, consider the Hedman dual cat headers. No more expensive than the Hooker 2460HKR's and 16767HKR y-pipe; and the 16767HKR y-pipe is only 2-1/2", and is designed to replace the LO3 cat.
If single cat now, the whole exhaust is the small 2-1/4". Start with Hooker 2055HKR headers, then get a cat and cat-back for the '86-'90 TPI single cat application.

usually any performance exhaust shop will make you a y pipe, that will fit your application, for around 100 bucks.
i had headman shorty headers and i had a y pipe made for 90 bucks

Some of the exhaust shop Y pipes look like they flow terrible, because most places just worry about routing the pipe to clear everything, and don't worry about how it's going to flow. There was a set of headers I saw on ebay with a muffler shop Y pipe and it was basically a single log w/ collector extensions on it (like a glorified stock Y)
Re: redoing exhaust what y-pipe would work with these headers?
my guy that does my y pipes made me a 2 1/2" y pipe......
it took him about an hour to bend it and place it perfectly. so it is possible and it is common. he just wrapped it as tightly as he could to the k member, without it rubbing it.
it has been done for me twice by 2 different exhaust shops.
if there arent any places that do exhaust, first of all ask around so u are sure...but if there arent any at all u might have to travel a little bit, perhaps to a bigger town.

I'm betting neither of those y-pipes you guys had made were mandrel bent.
I avoid shops whenever possible. I haven't gotten out of an exhaust shop for less than $100 in years, and even that was $65 to have two collectors welded up (and they did a crappy job, had to take it back to have them fix it). I since have acquired a $120 wire welder, so I don't have that problem anymore.
Admittedly, if you live in an apartment and the only place you have to work on the car is in the parking lot, that can be a problem. But, if you can find a place to work on it, say a friend's garage, then all of this exhaust stuff can be done with common hand tools (although removing the old stuff is easier if you have cutting equipment). You will need to get the car up in the air, 4 jacks stands suffices there. You may need to modify an AC brace, again power cutting helps there. Otherwise, this stuff all bolts together, no welding required; and at least for me, I get a lot more satisfaction from doing something than paying for it to be done.

actually they were bent, i watched him do it. and they were welded immaculately ...they were bent from 2 pieces of tubing...both of the places were custom exhaust shops..
