Exhaust options for a 383? help
hey, i was wondering what there are for options for exhaust for my 1986 camaro with a 1995 T-56 swap, it has the origional SPD crossmember not the long tube version (that was not out yet) im building a 383 that acording to TPIS should make 520 HP and 460 ft lbs TQ i want to go with long tubes i think those would be better... but how do i connect it... all together what about clearance issues i hear some people have big time problems. also i want to do frame connectors so it needs to clear those.. is any of this kind for sale or do i have to fab it all up?
buying it all would be awsome! let me know thanks

well with longtubes your clearances will be rough
There are ways to get it to work tho
You probly will have crossmember clearance problems when trying to route exhaust pipe under the car. Depends on how lowered you car, you may go under or around it. hard to say without knowing exactly what your setup looks like underneath
Most people have cut their crossmember up, fabbed new piece for exhaust clearance. Some have cut the frame rails, knotched them to allow pipes to tuck up better.
Do some searches on true dual exhaust and longtubes to see pics and other ppl's setups to get an idea of what you will have to do.
I am in a similar boat. Getting longtubes and have no clearance to run pipes under my spohn crossmember. SO i am gonna cut it up probly and reweld it to gain more clearance under neath it, so i can pass the pipes thru it.

so any thing that i do has to be fabed up? nothing is available off the shelf, what about the mufflex y pipe? i did searches on that and it seems to work, and as far as headers go why should i have to clearance if the headers are suposed to fit the car? (i did searches on that also) has anyone (NOT) had to clearance?
the cars stance is stock perhaps in the future i will lower it but not now
should i run the 4 inch flow master from mufflex? i like flowmaster sound
right now i have a shitty ovaled 2.5 or 3 inch with a flow master
also what frame connectors will work? any suggestions on fitment?

you might beable to run the mufflex y pipe for hooker 2210's. You may or may not have room around that crossmember or the pipes may sit abit too low.
Although they are made for our cars, they are not always a clean bolt in. most aftermarket parts are not direct bolt ins in alot of cases. Some minor mods needed. especially with longtubes and rest of the exhaust system, those things will needed fabbed up and clearances checked. For instance some headers hit on the a-arms on some ppl's cars. Some have had no problems with the header install, but running exhaust on these cars after longtubes is not always an easy task especially with crossmembers that hang low like Spohn
Just the way it works for our cars. I'm not aware of any aftermarket bolt in stuff using longtubes other than the mufflex y pipe. Again, i'm not sure if it will fit the t56 crossmember.
You can get custom subframe connectors made to fit these cars tho. Any good chassis shop can do that
