u dont NEED a cat, u lose 5-7hp with one, and if you dont have a cat, i assume you have custom work on you exhaust, so you'll need to have the catback hooked to the headers somehow, dont know enough of your set up to really tell you for sure

someone will come in here and tell you federal regulations require you to have a cat. screw federal law run it without the cat if you can get away with inspections. I dont like cats for 4 reasons, theyre expensive (but scrap money is nice!), theyre restrictive (except high flow cats when they are NEW), they make the exhaust sound/smell crappy, and they can get plugged up (running rich, race gas).

Re: No cat or cat???/

Lingenfelter tested a 100% stock LT1 with and without cat. He found 4HP difference. About the same as a throttle body bypass mod.

Personally I prefer with a cat. I don't like the gassy smell when I'm behind the car or parking inside a garage. With my catback (GMMG), it sounds better with a cat. If your car is running semi decent, your cat will last you at least a decade. Even if you need to replace it, it's a pretty easy part to deal with.
