fed-up with true duals

Hi

Tonight, I just damaged my Dynomax dual exhaust for the second time. It's too much !!!

I love the noisy touch of true-duals, but it's too much trouble. I wanna go backward and set a new single exhaust system.

The trouble is, I kept NOTHING of the old system. I'll find a cat-back easily, but what about the Y-pipe ?

Here in France, pre-1988 cars can run without catalytics, so I don't want to re-use one.

What part could you advice me ?

Thx...

I can only assume that it hangs to low, like a lot of people who put duals on our cars.A good 3 or 3.5 inch single catback (depending on your power level) will plenty for your needs

Re: fed-up with true duals

Tonight I dunno yet.

All I know is that I hear both cylinder banks, freely, but the sound is awful and the cars now vibrates terribly. I damaged it with a fence. You know, with this lil' metallic part the fence doors stop against when they close.

I'll pop the hood on tomorrow and check if the damage is near the headers or the oil pan.

Last time, a "male" pipe got out of the "female" one, just under the pessenger door.

Obviously, I finally wondering if the great sound does worth the pain. That Dynomax system heatens-up your oil-pan, features bmw-like exhaust outlets (both pipes exit on the driver-side) and scrapes the ground anytime...

I figure mine has been mounted badly ( by a self-awarded "specialist" here in France), but I wouldn't be ready to re-buy and re-install one...

In one word, I'm lost

The 3 inch would be enough. Well, believe so.
I wanna swap the heads, install Vortec units, with an Edelbrock MPFI. More flow, but still with a 305ci...

The trouble is, I had the original Y-pipe removed. How can I reconnect the headers with no catalytic. Moreover, I dunno anything about the headers. If I have to visit the guy that installed them, sure I will bust all his teeth with my knees !!!

Re: fed-up with true duals

Any good exhaust shop should be able to fabricate up a good Y pipe, the stock one was junk anyway... also if they fab up the Y pipe just have them put a longer pipe where the cat should be... That is how i deleted mine, just put a pipe there instead... auctually I put a cutout there. Then just grab any old "cat back" exhaust and bolt it up as usual. I dont know how good french exhaust shops are, but anyone that can bend pipes and weld can make some exhaust. Good Luck

Yup, that'll be plain useful...

There are very few exhaust shops in France. Most exhausts are changed in do-everything generic car centers, where custom work is an unknown word...

In the-country-where-you-don't-like-cars-anymore, a few tuning or luxury exhaust shops exist, but they're too pricey.

I contacted a local 4-wheeler tuner, and fortunately they also work on american cars. I can bring them the Bird as soon as the boss comes back from the SEMA. We start by fixing-up the current junk, then wonder quietly about a better solution.

Aftermarket single or tailor-fit dual with American Thunder muffler, I'll consider your advices anyway !!!

Thanks
