3.4 Liter V6 Trans AM Muffler

Which muffler sounds the best on a mildly upgraded engine?

I want it loud but, I don't want it to sound like a pissed off misquito...

By the way, I have a 3.4 Liter GM Performance Parts V6 Crate Engine, Ported and Polished, Heads, Intakes (2.8 V6 for now), and Throttle Body, Crane PowerMaxxx cam (.427/.454) and hydraulic lifters, Accel 19lb Injectors, Accel High Volume Fuel Pump, Accel High Flow Fuel Filter, Accel U-Groove Blister Pack Plugs, Accel Super Stock Plug Wires, Accel Brute Thunder Coil, GM Performance Parts Roller Tip Rockers, Hypertech performance control module, Specter cold air intake, Random Technologies High Flow Cat. I have 2 1/4" pipes from the manifolds back to the cat, 2 1/2" from the cat to the rear...

All Trans Ams came with V8s. There isn't much you can do with a v6 to make it sound like most members on this board think a Trans Am should sound. Perhaps you need to post this in the V6 section?

probably wouldn't sound to bad with turbo mufflers, they're fairly quiet at idle with a nice deep tone, I've never heard them on a six shooter though.

Except, of course for the TTA's - the fastest trans ams from the factory. What mufflers did they run?

Sorry, I stand corrected, but for the rarity, price and performance of TTAs', they are really in a class all their own. I find it highly unlikely that the originator of the thread has ever seen one, let alone owns one.

Turbochargers are remarkable in that they quiet the exhaust note significantly, so using the mufflers from a turbo car will not result in a similar tone at all.

Mine's not the TTA, I have seen one, almost bought it, but I didn't want to spend 10K for a car at the time...I wish I would have now...

Mine used to have a 305 4brl/700R4, the engine 3.4 from my '94 Camaro I had when I was 16 (which I rolled...) the wiring and T5 came out of the '85 Firebird that my T-top roof came off of. I didn't have the money to get another V8 to put in the car...and I couldn't rebuild the original...shot #4 through the valley. Even though I still had to rebuild the 3.4 about a year later...

Your car will probably be quicker with the 3.4 than it was with the 305, possibly a lot quicker. It's just not gonna sound like a V8 car no matter what you do, I think you're stuck with the pissed off hornets' nest sound.

And I passed on a Turbo TA about 8 years ago for $5,500 because the front fender was dented, the seats were torn, the carpet stained and the headliner was falling down. (sound of kicking myself).

Re: 3.4 Liter V6 Trans AM Muffler

When I had a 3.1 V6, it had the closest sound to a V8 I have ever heard. It had stock manifolds to stock y-pipe into a 3" converter then 3" pipe all the way to over the axle then splits into 2 pipes into 24" long 3.5" tailpipes and no muffler. Sounded really good and never got in trouble for the sound. You could only really notice it was a V6 at around 2,500 RPMs or higher.

If you want to go with a set-up like that, but with a muffler. I would get a Dynomax Bullet muffler from Summit Racing. When I put a V8 in my car, I put a Dynomax Bullet muffler in before the axle and with the V8 it was really loud.

Re: 3.4 Liter V6 Trans AM Muffler

I know mine will never sound like a V8, I just don't want it to sound anything like the Civics and Corollas (or that S15 that made me look stupid...)that I smoke on 82nd street...

One of the guys at Unversity Muffler told that I could use a Magnaflow 2.5" 1in 2out muffler, anyone know what that would sound like?
