I'm currently running this system, http://www.jegs.com/i/Magnaflow/642/16829/10002/-1 , on a completely stock tbi 305 and am pretty unhappy with the sound. On one hand it has a very nice rumble but on the other hand it is extremely quiet. If you have the engine running and you're standing at the front of the car, you cannot even hear it. I don't want it to be crazy loud but I'd would like more sound than that.

So how would Cherrybomb mufflers sound with this? Or am I just screwed with Magnaflow and should just replace the whole system?

ACK!! Glasspacks!! Change to that and then you won't be happy with how it sounds driving. I would just keep what you got, maybe add an exhaust cutout, and open it up once in a while if you want it loud.

Cherrybomb's or Glasspack mufflers do not sound good on a Low output SBC, like many say some can sound very farm truckish. However if you were to put a chambered muffler in the mid pipe and cut out the magnaflow and have somebody fab up som pipe to fill the gap where the magnaflow was i think it would sound decent and be louder than what you got now.

You should check out Orroc89z's setup.

i disagree. i have a thrush glasspack on my bird and i think it sounds pretty good. i have it paired up with a dynomax super converter. thrush glasspacks are better quality for around the same price and don't have that POS pickup truck sound.

here's a vid i took:

Re: Opinions on cherrybomb/glasspack with specific exhaust system
The problem with glass packs is folks don't run a proper tail pipe, they just let them dump. The muffler is the mouth piece, the tail pipe is the horn.

I run cherrybombs on both my V6 n V8 cars.

For the V6 its awesome as no one can tell its a 6.
No where in the RPM range does it give it away like other mufflers that just scream V6. Its fun when folks ask what kind of engine ya got and then see their brain lock up when I say just a V6.

On both cars the bombs are up close, just about under your butt where the cat would go with a tail pipe that runs the full length of the car. That is the key, a nice horn for them to blow through. Then you get the right sound.

When your mufflers are in the trunk with only a few inches for a tail pipe not many systems sound that great.

Someone will ask how, there is just enough room down the sides of the car between the floorpan and the sides to get a round bullet muffler up high enough not to be a problem with any ride height.

FYI Thrush is owned by CherryBomb now, why they come in red not blue like the old Thrush.

Techinacly I have Thrush on my V8 but......

well the internals of the Thrush glasspack are different. the Cherry Bomb has louvers that restrict airflow inside the muffler (see pic). the internals of the Thrush are perforated holes that are flush with the case...less restriction and you don't get that typical "flap flap flap" sound at idle.

Step back 10 feet, raise camera 4 feet. RETAKE video. Please include idle to redline, 2k to redline and many blips bewteen 3-4k. Ill know what it sounds like then.

Note I have always loved the gangster cars you see in movies or their trucks with glasspacks but go NOWHERE...haha, thats the only way I'd have one, if I was gangsta. But some do sound GREAT. There is a Japanese Camaro that has glasspacks and I believe it to be the best sounding iroc I have heard, beating out the GMMG, so yes they sound good...with work though.

P.S. What did you rev to?

When I pulled the rusty single cherry bomb off my V8 car [ I know it was a CB]before I installed the duals [Thrush], the CB came apart, full of perf holes, no louvers to speak of. [Think I threw it out though, did keep it for a while since I never seen one apart like that.]

If ya do got one like that, install it backwards.

Cool. Co either an cutout or a cherry bomb that isn't just dumped. Question though, what exactly is an exhaust cutout? I'm not that smart when it comes to this stuff. Is it a complicated procedure? Could my local mechanic perform it? He's the one who installed the Magnaflow system.

Re: Opinions on cherrybomb/glasspack with specific exhaust system
An exhaust cutout comes in two popular forms, manual and electric.

A manual cutout is a small y-pipe type piece that has a plate on the other end of the y which can be removed to open the exhaust where ever it is placed/faced.

An electric cutout is the same thing but uses a solenoid to open and close the cutout from inside the car. This is most common and popular because not everyone wants to go under the car uncap a plate, then recap and keep doing that...when we can just hit a switch.

Most common I know of is QTP Cutouts. Search for GTP @ TGO and I am sure you will get more than enough information on cutouts.

Re: Opinions on cherrybomb/glasspack with specific exhaust system
manual cut outs are for real track racing only.

Why? when you get pulled over you won't be able to climb up under it and close them off without the cop seeing you.

So you still get a ticket for no/loud exhaust.
And dependong on your local laws, made to remove them.

^^^Yes, thats the reason most get the electric type. Most on here DD their cars. I plan to get one of these as well.

Re: Opinions on cherrybomb/glasspack with specific exhaust system
Honestly, it sounds like the best option for me. I looked up QTP cutouts and found one for $110. Now, what's the labor like on something like this? Huge job or as simple as installing a muffler?

Re: Opinions on cherrybomb/glasspack with specific exhaust system
Easy yes but not if you do it right so its hidden.

Once again if you get pulled over as your car sounded like it had open headder one sec then quiet as a mouse the next, you don't want it to be easily seen from poking your head under the car as you will still get a ticket.

If it can't be seen you claim you think something is lose and plan to fix it.

Re: Opinions on cherrybomb/glasspack with specific exhaust system
Maybe its the quality of the camera/film/sound card/speakers but that isnt loud at all. Even turned my speakers up loud to see if maybe it was just low in the video...nope, seems a lot quieter than other CB setups..and for as short as the piping is I thought it would have been louder.

Re: Opinions on cherrybomb/glasspack with specific exhaust system
6ft of pipe after the muffler, 3 2ft pieces, maybe 5 1/2 with pipe joint lap.
Its mounted right after the down turn.

There is a fine line between loud good and loud bad.
Less pipe is louder but not good.
