What will I need?

I have a 1992 Camaro RS 305 TBI, right now it has a stock exhaust. This weekend i am ordering a magnaflow system part #16829, and i am also ordering a magnaflow direct-fit cat part #93456. I am very new to working with exhaust, can someone give me some input on what i will need? Will i need to buy any other parts at all? I am hoping to order everything at once.

Re: What will I need?

If everything is direct fit you should only need tools. But we all know how direct fit often goes.

I know it wont be direct fit, the cat im getting is a direct fit but the exhaust im getting is not a direct fit to the cat, thats the only problem i think i will have. How do i get the 2.5 inch outlet of the cat to match up to the 3 inch inlet of the exhaust?

Re: What will I need?

i would get the 3" magnaflow direct fit cat since it will hook right up to the catback and then use the reducers to mount the cat to the y pipemight be easier after you install everything you may want to have the seems all welded in place too. just a thought. i did

Re: What will I need?

I would suggest getting the 3" cat and an adapter to connect it at the y-pipe. You can find the adapters at most parts stores. Other than the adapter you should only need basic tools. A sawzall is always very handy when doing exhaust work, but a hacksaw will work if you don't have a sawzall.

Do you have a part number for the 3 inch cat, i looked and only saw a direct fit cat that was 2.5 inches. I already got the exhaust off using a sawzall, and your right it did take a little toget through it.

Re: What will I need?

I found a 3 inch cat, and i think i might go with that becuase later in the year im going to get some headers and it will make it a lot easier then, because the Y pipe will be 3 inches.

Re: What will I need?

Looking at the photos for the system on Magnaflow's site...

Does the 3" pipe that connects to the cat reduce to a smaller diameter, then go back up to 3" again at the next pipe???

Is there a reason for this?

Yes, both the cat and the cat back are designed to connect to the stock system, which is smaller than 3".

Re: What will I need?

this is the one i bought MagnaFlow 93441 hooked right up to the cat back. i have hooker 2055's headers. they come with a y pipe that is 3" so everything fits perfect. the best bolt on set up i think. no reducers the cat will slip right over a 3" pipe. i just did complete exhaust a month ago now. headers y pipe cat and catback. any other ?'s just let me know and i will try my best to answer! you may want to cut your old brackets off the old exhaust. i had to reuse the slip in hanger on passenger side and drill a hole in it to mack magnaflow cat back hang there.
