Sidepipes vs. performance
i know there were propably milions of topics regarding sidepipes but i fail to find any that will give me answer to my question.
i want to make sidepipes like this one

and i'm wondering will it kill my performance or will help. my setup is 383 HSR with CompCams CS XR276HR-12.
any sugestions or dyno charts showing numbers ?? i don't care about loudness.
best regards

Re: Sidepipes vs. performance
That's Vulcan's car! Those side pipes are just strait pipes coming from the turbos, no mufflers. I'd imagine that there wouldn't be any difference in performance since you're just choosing a different location for the exhaust to exit. If you were changing the length of the exhaust then there would be a little difference.
Your not confusing his sidepipes with the kind that many C3 corvettes have are you? those actually have long inserts inside them to act as mufflers. I have no clue how those affect power.

Re: Sidepipes vs. performance
that looks pretty simple. from the header and a bend to the outside and a cat them the pipe you like. but that pipe will probably require an internal chambered exhaust - like the vette. but those outside pipes actually look like the pipes you see on semi truck's with those long upstanding chrome exhausts, but laying dowm of course.

Re: Sidepipes vs. performance
I know that these are only pipes form headres/turbos with-out any mufflers. I'm asking will this kind of setup kill my performance, i do not need to bother about loudness.
Should i go with y-pipe and then go to side with exhaust or make it true dual like going with each other straight form header to the side ??
best regards

Re: Sidepipes vs. performance
the vette used this setup to increase hp - other than the initial bend the pipes would be straight and if the bend were mandral and free flowing it would not slow down the flow and neither would the straight side pipes.
but they are loud. you will have the exhaust in your ear all the time.

Re: Sidepipes vs. performance
If you're looking for the best possible performance/lowest restriction then you will want to run the true dual setup. This would also be the easiest to do. The factory y-pipe is designed to run back the passenger side. To use it you would need to put a pretty tight bend in it to run the driver's side pipe.

Re: Sidepipes vs. performance
i have an 84 camaro that i just got glass packs for and im thinking about running the exhaust right out infront of the rear wheels. Its gonna be a true dual exhaust what do you think about running cherry bombs glass packs with that setup?

Re: Sidepipes vs. performance
i had that same idea...it sounded great til i got all the parts and tried to fit it. if you try that setup, you will have no ground clearance. it's easier to run both pipes out on the passengers side and have them dump there. good luck!

Re: Sidepipes vs. performance
well we are gonna be running a larger tire on the car. and i dont think ground clearence will be to much of a problem. ill keep that in mind tho. thanks.
Re: Sidepipes vs. performance
That car looks beastly. I was wondering though- besides the attachment of the long tube pipe to the headers, what holds the pipe up? It doesn't just hang there does it? Also, how bad is ground clearence? I suppose you need to be careful not to burn your leg on the way out too.

He came to the track today. There are two hangers that I can see. one right under the door hinges and the other about 8 inches from the end.

Re: Sidepipes vs. performance
Actually the side pipes on the C3 vettes are more restrictive than a true dual setup. Also the sidepipes are connected with some hangers under/on the rocker panel.
