Converting long tube headers into shorties, is it feasible??!!
Just like the title says. I just changed transmissions from a 5 speed to a built 700R4 and my long tubes and y pipe won't fit now. Was looking at shorties and had a question. Can you take a set of long tube headers, cut them halfway, and reweld the flanges/collectors back on them thus making them a shortie style header? Only reason for me to do it is to fit the headers I already have with my trans so I don't have to drop a ton of cash on another set of headers a y pipe. A custom y pipe will need to be made either way but the headers I have cost me $750. Well what do you think, any reasons not to do it?

You're worried about clearing the clutch slave cylinder with Hedmans?

Negative. I used to have a 5 speed in the car, and now I have a 700R4 in its place and I am using Hooker Super Competition long tube part number 2210. The headers and y pipe I had fit great with the 5 speed, but with the autom in there I don't have any room at all.
