Stock Y-pipe with shorty headers
Hey guys what going on? My buddy has a 1991 rs that we transpanted a 350ci. motor into and i was woundering if i can get away with using the stock y-pipe that is in there(was already bolted to the manifolds) with a set of shorty headers that were made for a third gen f-body. I know that i will at least have to cut off the stock 2bold flanges and weld on three bolt header flanges but i was wondering how much modification i have to do to the pipe itself to make it work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated before the weekend as i have the motor out of the car for a rebuild (let his mother drive it and she didn't check oil and spun the bearings lol)
Thanks again,
Mike Sarmiento

Re: Stock Y-pipe with shorty headers
Hi!
shorty header designs vary from brand to brand, so they usually require a specific y-pipe to work with their layout. The stock y would negate most of the benefits you'd be gaining with the addition of headers, even worse if it's an aftermarket replacement (crimp style bends are your enemy). You will probably spend more time trying to modify and weld the corrected angles and flanges than it would be worth.

x2 using a stock y-pipe would be way to much time to modifiy and you still end up with crap. might as well buy a whole new 3" exhaust and weld the tail pipes shut. a little exaggerated but you know what im sayin
