ok so while i wass changing my oil today i was admiring the under side of my car and was ashamed to notice something that i never noticed before. My car is 92 rs 305 tbi. all stock pretty much. what i ifound is i have dual cats and no y pipe. i have 2 pipes one from each stock exhaust manifold down to each cat and then after the cats it goes into one pipe. i was under the impression that all of these cars had y pipes? any idea what this could be from?
oh i was under the impression that even they still had a y pipe

they do, its just longer than the regular y-pipe and ties back together after hte cats.Originally Posted by bigred75

I'm not sure why you are disappointed. The factory dual cat setup is awesome, and was never a "y-pipe" in the true sense of the word. The cats were actually incorporated into the y. Here is a pic. If it were me, I'd be very happy to find out that my car actually had somewhat of a free flowing exhaust. I dunno, maybe I'm wrong?!

yup thats exactly what i have. im not dissapointed or anything i was just thinking some cheap headers would be better over the stock manifolds. idk.

I didn't think they tied together at all until they hit the muffler. I'd have to crawl under my car to be sure though.

as far as I know, no headers will bolt to stock exhaust without modification. most reputable header companies supply a dual cat pipe set. hedman does for sure. Just buy the headers for a dual cat car and it will come with the proper pipes to be welded up.
